Dr. M. Arts completed his medical degree cum laude at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He completed his neurosurgery training at Haaglanden Medisch Centrum (HMC) in The Hague. At the moment he works at HMC, HagaZiekenhuis and Groene Hart Ziekenhuis. In 2010 he obtained his PhD on the subject of minimal invasive treatment of lumbar hernias. He specialised in spine surgery and is one of the few neurosurgeons in the Netherlands who performs surgery on the thoracic spine. He also was one of the first to implant a 3D printed cervical intervertebral disc. Besides working as a neurosurgeon he also performs scientific research to improve the quality of neurosurgical care.
