Dr. Pondaag completed his neurosurgeon training at LUMC in Leiden. During his training he did an internship at 'Institut de la Main' in Paris with prof. A. Gilbert, specialised in surgical treatment of brachial plexus injuries in children. In 2012 he obtained his PhD on this subject and the title of his thesis is "Obstetric Brachial Plexus Lesions - a framework for therapy". He specialised in nerve surgery, including brachial plexus surgery, and complex spine surgery.
