Prof. dr. Malessy completed his medical degree in Ghent and Leiden and completed his neurosurgeon training at OLVG in Amsterdam and LUMC in Leiden. He's the founder of the Leiden Nerve Centre (NL: ZenuwCentrum), an expert center that treats patients with complex nerve disorders from all over the Netherlands. In 2011 Malessy was appointed professor in nerve surgery. The title of his inaugural lecture was 'If not now, when?'. He's involved in scientific research on nerve regeneration and nerve pain. He founded 'PainLess Foundation' that aims to develop innovative technologies to control and fight pain.
